Introduction

If you’re a travel blogger or content creator and you’ve registered for your very first TBEX conference, you may be overwhelmed and wondering how to prepare.  To help you make the most out of your experience, let me tell you everything you need to know before attending your first TBEX.

Before the TBEX Travel Blogger Conference

There are a few things I recommend that you do in the months and weeks leading up to the conference:

  • Join the conference Facebook group to get up-to-date information
  • Sign up for Pre-BEX tours (these are day trips that the host city plans the two days before the official conference days)
  • Apply for FAM Trips (these occur after the official conference days but are not guaranteed for everyone attending)
  • Complete your travel content creator bio on BloggerBridge

What Travel Bloggers and Content Creators Should Prepare

You’ll be meeting so many people while you’re at TBEX, including representatives of various tourism boards and travel companies.  While these aren’t required, I highly recommend bringing the following:

  • Business Cards (helpful if they have QR codes that scan to your social media accounts and/or a media kit)
  • One-page Media Kit (if applicable) with copies to hand out
  • Notebook or something to take notes with
  • Extra space in your luggage for all of the swag you may grab from tourism boards and brands

While You’re There

Time flies when you’re having fun and learning a lot at TBEX, so try your best to take advantage of every minute.

  • Attend as many learning sessions and pre or post events as you can
  • Stop by tables of tourism boards/brands even if you don’t have a speed networking appointment
  • Network with others
  • Hydrate!  You’ll be doing a lot of talking

After the Conference

Once the conference is over, you’ll be amazed at how much you’ve learned and how many people you’ve met in the last few days.  To make the most out of the experience, here are my tips for after the conference:

  • Stay in touch with other travel bloggers/content creators (follow them on social media and interact with their accounts)
  • Follow up with the tourism boards/brands you met with (as well as ones you didn’t get a chance to meet)
  • Organize your contacts

Conclusion

If you’re new to a TBEX conference, you may not know what to expect.  I hope that the information above has you feeling a little more prepared.  One thing is certain:  you can expect to leave TBEX with new knowledge, new friends, and motivation to keep growing your travel brand.  I hope to see you there!

Ready to take the leap and join Traveling Terry at YOUR first TBEX travel blogger /content creator conference? Or, excited to join us once again? Two events have been announced so far for 2024. TBEX Europe in San Sebastian, Spain (Basque Country), May 28 -31 and TBEX North America in San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 9-12.

About Terry: “After spending 13 years as an elementary school teacher, I left the classroom in the fall of 2020 to pursue other goals and dreams of mine and went full time with my online education business.

Leaving the classroom was terrifying, but it also pushed me in an entirely new direction and led me to begin creating travel content.  After I had been out of the classroom for a year, I booked a month-long trip to Italy for September 2021.

I’ve always loved to travel.  I’ve been on many solo trips in the past 10 years.  This time, I wanted to make it a unique experience, so  I decided to start a Tiktok account with the intention of creating fun videos to document my adventures.  I love sharing my experiences with others and encouraging them to travel as well, especially those who are hesitant to go if they don’t have a partner or friends to join them.”

A few more important bits of advice to add……

– Join the official WhatsApp group for the specific event you will be attending. Usually you get a link two weeks before the conference and that is a more detailed and real-time way of staying in touch with what is going on and indeed any possible last minute additions to the schedule.

– Book your accommodation as close to the conference venue as you possible can, somewhere that is 5-10 minutes walk maximum. You can do your homework on Google Street View as well but this is vital if you need to go back to your room for any reason whilst the conference is on then quickly return and indeed the conference venue is where the meeting point is for pre-BEX trips and FAM trips as well as transport to the opening and closing parties too.

– And probably the most important especially for newbies……….just be yourself and say hi and introduce yourself to everyone you can. I will never forget my first event back in 2017 and how welcoming everyone was to a complete stranger like me. Believe me there will be no imposter syndrome at TBEX ever!
