Admission to The Robins Nature Center, loaner binoculars. Maymont is close to Carytown district restaurants and shops.

Most of the mile-long trail is wheelchair-accessible, but the terrain at Maymont is very hilly and involves light hiking. The Robins Nature Center has an accessible entrance ramp and restrooms are accessible. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no food service at Maymont, but there are snack machines at the nature center.

Enjoy a guided tour of the 33-room Maymont Mansion, an 1893 Gilded Age home and estate given to the city of Richmond in 1926 by James and Sallie May Dooley. Maymont is free to visit the 100-acre grounds, landscaped gardens, Virginia Wildlife Trail and Maymont Farm. For free admission to The Robins Nature Center ($10 value) present your TBEX credentials at the front desk. Maymont has no food service facilities, but there are snack machines, water fountains and accessible restrooms at various locations across the grounds.

The Robins Nature Center is wheelchair accessible, but guests should know that Maymont’s grounds are quite hilly, and the historic Mansion’s upper floors are not accessible by wheelchair. Some of the pathways to the landscaped gardens are rustic stone. Trained service animals are allowed, but pets are not, for the safety of Maymont’s resident animals.

For 15 years, Loose Screw Tattoo has been a creative anchor in Carytown, shaping Richmond’s tattoo culture while drawing artists and collectors from around the world. Founded by internationally recognized artist and Ink Master star Jesse Smith, the studio has become known not only for exceptional tattooing across every style, but for building a global community rooted in artistry, collaboration, and innovation.
On June 25, that community’s coming together to celebrate. The 15th Anniversary Party is more than a milestone. It’s a reflection of the artists, supporters, and collectors who have helped shape Loose Screw into what it is today. 
The evening also offers a preview of the Richmond Tattoo & Arts Convention, set for October 23 through 25, one of the longest-running tattoo conventions in the world. For 38 years, this event has served as a meeting ground for industry pioneers, rising artists, and passionate fans, showcasing the evolution of tattooing while honoring its roots. Guests at the anniversary party will have the opportunity to meet a selection of artists who will be part of this year’s convention, offering an early look at the talent and creativity that define the experience.

Pop by for a free 30-minute tour of Preservation Virginia’s John Marshall House and explore the remarkably preserved 1790 home of the Great Chief Justice. Guided tours provide a glimpse into John Marshall’s personal life alongside the story of his influence on the American government. Along the way, learn about the complex yet intriguing world of Richmond in the early republic.
 
The John Marshall House is the oldest surviving brick house in the City of Richmond, built in 1790. John Marshall is best known as the Great Chief Justice known for his role in creating the modern Supreme Court. His surviving house allows visitors to learn about the founding of the nation through the lens of John Marshall’s life and achievements.

The John Marshall House is located three steps up from street level, and the house requires visitors to climb five steps to enter. The house tour covers three levels of the home, all of which are accessed by stairs.

Join the most experienced tour guides in Richmond to explore Jackson Ward, one of the city’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. Visit colorful murals, revitalized buildings and historic homes and explore the neighborhood’s significance to Richmond’s Black history. We’ll trace its evolution from a working-class immigrant neighborhood “Harlem of the South,” and explore how street art is telling the story of Jackson Ward today.
 
Valentine walking tours are typically between 1-2 miles in length. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.

Tours are held rain or shine. However, in extreme weather, a tour may be cancelled. Notifications about tour status and cancellation will be sent to registrants via email. You can also call 804-649-0711 x 301 to verify a tour will take place.
