Jay earned bachelors degrees in economics and political science, and a masters degree in political science from Louisiana State University. He now spends much of his time as a radio host, speaker, culinary personality, and emcee. He finished as runner-up on Season 11 of the hit reality competition show “Food Network Star” in 2016, and launched the pilot for his show, “Deep Fried America”, on the Travel Channel the following year. (He also beat celebrity chef Bobby Flay at a crawfish boil competition in 2019.)
Jay’s missions are to explore and expand the conversation of Louisiana cuisine, and to celebrate and share the culinary culture in the communities he visits. He has produced and hosted the The Bite and Booze Radio Show since 2011. The show/podcast, featuring conversations with chefs, food and beverage personalities, and organizers of food and drink, won a ‘Taste Award’ for best food or drink radio broadcast in the United States in 2014 and the ‘Uniquely Louisiana Award’ from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters in 2015. He now hosts The Jay Ducote Show, which expands beyond food and drink by delving into arts, entertainment, music, film, and sports.
As an entrepreneur, Jay established the Jay D’s product line, which features a Louisiana Barbecue Sauce, Louisiana Molasses Mustard, Spicy & Sweet BBQ Rub, and Jay D’s Single Origin Coffee. He recently collaborated with Jeff Landry of West Monroe’s Landry Vineyards to create Jay D’s Blanc du Bois, a small batch, hand-crafted white wine varietal which pairs beautifully with Louisiana’s famous cuisine. In May 2018 Jay launched his first restaurant concept, Gov’t Taco, inside the White Star Market in Baton Rouge. The popular taco shop is expected to open in a new brick and mortar location later this year.
