Next, delve into history at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum and Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Head due west to explore the Enchanted Highway and the beautiful Badlands. Revel in the beauty at Painted Canyon and step back in time to when cattle was king on the prairie and Old West towns like Medora were gathering places for the people brave enough to settle in the rugged Badlands. Medora shares the charms of “old days” with thousands of visitors each year. Its quaint downtown offers shopping. touring, eating and stagecoach rides. It also is the gateway to the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and home of the Medora Musical. Marvel in amazing road biking and hiking trails, camping and plentiful wildlife like bison, deer, prairie dogs, wild horses and eagles in the South Unit at Medora and North Unit near Watford City, where the Bakken boom has led to an eclectic downtown with a collection of unique shopping and dining experiences. A popular scenic drive leads to Williston, where a variety of guided activities and tours will be offered to explore the beautiful surroundings by car, foot or mountain bike. Unique, comfortable lodging and amenities, as well as a culinary scene that will surprise even seasoned foodies, will provide rejuvenation after each day’s adventure.
