You could say Maeve Binchy began her writing career as a travel blogger! One summer, as a young woman, Maeve spent time on a kibbutz in Israel where she wrote daily letters home to her parents describing in detail her surroundings and her experiences. So impressed was her father with the quality of Maeve’s writing that he sent them to the national newspapers. The rest as they say, is history and thus was born a glittering career that spanned decades and many genres resulting in Maeve Binchy becoming one of the most prolific and beloved writers worldwide.
In September, there is a celebration Maeve’s life and work in her home place of Dalkey and that of other renowned Irish writers. Echoes, the inaugural event takes place in Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th of September 2017. Join us for a session of thought provoking talks, walks, debates, interviews and theatrical events.
