Athens, Greece’s capital and largest city, is the national hub of economic, political, social and cultural activity. The City of Athens has a population of 700.000 and 3,7 million people live in the greater metropolitan area.
One of the world’s oldest cities, Athens has been a crossroads of civilisations through the ages. Today, Athens is a modern European metropolis with a thriving cultural life and tourism industry. A geo-strategic bridge between Europe, the Balkans, and the Middle East, Athens is also becoming increasingly attractive as a place to do business. Upgraded infrastructure, world-class research and development institutes, and a highly skilled, competitive workforce make Athens an excellent prospect for investment.
About Athens Development & Destination Management Agency (ADDMA)
The Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) was established in 1996 to advance and promote Athens as a business and tourism destination. The Municipality of Athens is the Agency’s majority shareholder. Our goal is to make Athens the most innovative and attractive city in Southern Europe for visitors and investors.
The Agency designs, plans, and implements a wide range of projects and action plans for the Athens metropolitan area. A core team of economists, urban planners, policymakers, tourism and travel trade specialists, along with strategic marketing and communications experts work across the Agency’s diverse portfolio of activities – from promoting social entrepreneurship and overseeing public works, to organising trade shows and press trips in Athens.
About Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB)
ADDMA operates also the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), the city’s official Destination Management Organisation. ADDMA’s ACVB focuses on actions for increasing average length of stay, smoothing out seasonality and building up the local visitors’ economy. It develops cooperation networks between the private and public sectors and strengthens connections with the international travel industry. Moreover, major tasks include branding and implementing an integrated communication and PR strategy as well as running visitor information and management services.
Athens is fast becoming one of Europe’s leading city destinations. And it’s no wonder. World-class cultural attractions, modern amenities, diverse entertainment, natural beauty, services and facilities that would satisfy the most seasoned traveler are all here in the city where democracy was born. Add the warm and hospitable people and you have a travel destination like no other.
ACVB’s mission is to make Athens the destination of choice for conventions, conferences, meetings and incentives. For that purpose, a team of dedicated professionals offer a total event solution service, quickly and efficiently.
