TBEX Staff & Bloggers at Athens Travel Trade Fair

TBEX staff, along with a few bloggers from the TBEX community, attended the Athens Travel Trade Fair earlier this month. The trade fair included a variety of networking opportunities, tours, and a press conference.

The press conference, among others things, explained to international journalists the importance Athens places on hosting TBEX Europe 2014.

George Broulias, President of the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency said, “The awarding of the TBEX event in Athens, after the crucial and persistent efforts of the City of Athens and the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau, is a very important success for our city. For three days, Athens will be at the focus of hundreds of top opinion leaders through the largest networks of social media and travel blogs, while the positive impact of the event for our destination will be reproduced internationally for a long time. It is a great honour, but also an opportunity for our city.”

Athens Mayor Yorgos Kaminis explained that hosting TBEX was a part of the city’s targeted actions and dedication to reposition Athens on the international tourism map.

Remarks on behalf of TBEX were made by Mary Jo Manzanares, TBEX Conference Director.

Bloggers attending on behalf of TBEX included Paul Johnson, Kerwin Mackenzie, Cacinda Maloney, and Laurence Norah.$127

TBEX Athens Speaker Deadline Extended

I’m about to preview first hand how wonderful Athens will be for TBEX Europe 2014.

This will be my first visit to Greece and, along with some other TBEX staff, we’ll be taking part in the Athens Travel Trade Fair next week. This is a chance for us to learn more about our destination, participate in a press conference, attend some meetings and workshops, and work with our partners to help create another world class TBEX event.

We’ll also be looking forward to seeing a few members of the TBEX community who have been invited to participate as media in the trade fair, including Laurence Norah from Finding the Universe, Paul Johnson from A Luxury Travel Blog, Kerwin Mackenzie, and Cacinda Maloney from Points and Travel. Perhaps a few others of you will be there as well – and if so, leave us a comment letting us know so that we can look for you.

Because of this travel schedule, and the necessary follow up that will need to be done upon our return, we’ll not be able to tackle the Athens speaker selections right away.

Our schedule is your gain as we’ve extended the deadline for speaker submissions to April 30, 2014, at midnight Pacific Time. We’ve got lots of great submissions so far, but I also know that some of you are still trying to decide what to submit for a session idea. We recommend that you can get more info about what we look for in speakers for TBEX, as well as specific information about speaking in Athens, before working your idea into a submission.

Early Bird TBEX Athens registration is now available:  $127 for bloggers, $597 for industry attendees. Register now before prices go up.
