Rich History & Promising Future
The Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. was incorporated in 1976 to promote the New York State Capital as a destination for visitors and convention delegates. Today, we are known as Discover Albany.
Over the past four centuries, Albany has grown from a small Dutch settlement into New York State’s Capital City in the heart of burgeoning Tech Valley. This historic city – which revolutionaries and inventors have called home – is beautifully preserved. Dotted with museums and heritage sites, this city celebrates its history. But the city also embraces its future, and local makers and entrepreneurs have brought a new dynamism to the city. Just take a walk downtown to get a sense of the energy. This year the city welcomed three new tour companies, murals are sprouting up all over the city on parking garages, and the region’s growing bikeshare program is strengthening the city’s connection to the waterfront. Residents and visitors alike enjoy four unique seasons of entertaining events, historic masterpieces, unique cultural attractions, regional shopping centers, and a taste of culinary delights from around the world. With convenient access via train, car, and direct flights from some of the nation’s biggest cities, Albany is convenient and accessible.
