Description: A visit to Intramuros will provide a glimpse of the Philippines’ rich history, culture and tradition. It is a fitting introduction to Old Manila’s charm and sophistication. Intramuros, a Latin word which means “within the walls”, is the historic center and oldest district of Manila. It was also known as “Ciudad Murada” (walled city) because of its stone walls and fortifications that almost completely surround the entire district. Nowadays, visiting this area is one of the top things to do in Manila. Horse drawn carriages with guides are available to take you around and show you historically significant sites..

Description: Bamboo Bike or “Bambike” tours of Intramuros is an exciting and educational ecotourism activity in the heart of Manila’s old walled city of Intramuros. Guests will be riding through the streets on bamboo bikes that have been handmade by Gawad Kalinga* villagers here in the Philippines. Tourists will be led around the area, getting to cover more ground than if on a walking tour and having a more interesting experience than if going around on a calesa. This ecotour will both teach visitors about Philippine history and make them feel like kids again. *Bambike is a socio-ecological enterprise that hand-makes bamboo bicycles with fair-trade labor and sustainable building practices. Our bamboo bike builders (aka Bambuilders) come from Gawad Kalinga, a Philippine based community development organization for the poor, working to bring an end to poverty.

Description: Malacañan Palace is the official residence of the President of the Philippines, situated in the old Manila district of San Miguel. There are now sixteen (16) Presidents of the Philippines who have occupied Malacañang since the office was created on January 23, 1899. Walk through the halls where former Presidents changed the course of Philippine history and witness these stories unravel in the nation’s seat of power.

Description: Celebrate humanity. Join us in building new dreams for families. “Gawad Kalinga,” translated in English means to “give care”, is a Philippine-based movement that aims to end poverty by first restoring the dignity of the poor through building empowered and sustainable communities. One of the latest projects of Gawad Kalinga (GK) in Manila is the development of the Munting Pamayanan Village in Escopa 3, Quezon City – a GK community committed and dedicated to our differently abled/ PWD brothers and sisters. The Voluntour provides participants the opportunity to get to know the GK residents and build houses with them and participate in other GK programs. Your muscles may be a little tired at the end of the tour, but many of those who have experienced volunteering in GK communities leave with a renewed and inspired heart.
