This blogtrip wll start with a visit to the Montsec Astronomy Park (PAM). The Montsec Astronomy Park (PAM) can be found in the Montsec Mountains which straddle the local districts of La Noguera and El Pallars Jussà in the province of Lleida. It has two main attractions: the Centre for Observing the Universe (COU) and the Montsec Astronomic Observatory (OAdM). After this visit, we will enjoy some outdoor activities at the Mont-rebei Gorge (kayaking and hiking). In its journey path through the Montsec Massif, the River Noguera Ribagorçana has created the immense vertical walls of rock that form the Mont-rebei Gorge. This impressive structure opens out to the south as a form of a natural amphitheater with imposing cliffs. The Mont-rebei Gorge runs from north to south through the Montsec Massif. With an area of around 600 acres, this is the largest outcrop in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.

On the second day we will visit the area called Alta Ribagorça, with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Vall of Boí and its Romanesque art and architecture. This territory offers visitors a rich cultural and monumental heritage which is crowned by its Romanesque legacy. The maximum expression of this heritage can be found in the group of Romanesque-style churches located in the Vall de Boí which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After this, there will be a visit to the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. The only National Park in Catalonia is located in the heart of the Pyrenees. This most genuine example of high-mountain terrain offers views of majestic landscapes and of the wide variety of flora and fauna that can be found within its borders of this truly unique natural space. Its’ centuries old woods of fir and Spanish pine also contain around 200 mountain lakes.

To finish the blogtrip we will visit the Val d’Aran, which is located in the Central Pyrenees, has the peculiar characteristic of being the only Atlantic-facing valley in the Catalan Pyrenees. This area has known how to conserve its own unique linguistic, artistic and cultural heritage. This patrimony, which is well integrated with the natural landscape, has then been exploited to create a series of routes that reveal the history of this area and its great artistic heritage, which includes its unique Romanesque and Gothic patrimony.

This blog trip starts sailing on board of a Llaüt Lo Roget www.llautloroget.com www.ascoturisme.com in Ascó – Móra d’Ebre. Feel the Ebro up close by sailing with the llaüt Lo Roget, a replica of the traditional vessels used for centuries in the Ebro Valley. Then we have planned a visit to Miravet. www.miravet.altanet.org  The old village of Miravet is situated on top of rocks overlooking the Ebre River at the foot of the impressive Templar Castle, which crowns the whole village. Numerous porches and some typical houses with attics and bamboo structures have been preserved along its steep, narrow alleys. We can also visit the last river shipyard on the Ebre River, and the mediaeval Varnish mill. Also, the old Moorish Mosque is a must, as well as the old Renaissance style Church. Ceramics has been a long lasting tradition here, and has seduced visitors arriving at this village for centuries. We will have lunch in Pinell de Brai www.catedraldelvi.com . Enjoy your meal in an exceptional Modernist style building. Built between 1918 and 1927 and designed by the architect Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí, the wine cellar has three adjoining naves at the front and two more situated crosswise at the back, on a different level. Afterwards we will visit Horta de Sant Joan www.hortadesantjoan.cat which is one of the most picturesque villages in the Terra Alta region. The surrounding mountains and mediaeval alleyways in the old quarter give it an almost magical feel. The route through the village starts in the porticoed church square, which has some architecturally spectacular buildings. You will visit the Picasso Museum too.

On the second day of the trip we will discover the Terres de l’Ebre Greenway from Horta de Sant Joan to Benifallet. www.viasverdes.com   This route follows the old railway track of the Val de Zafán (no longer in use) which linked, until 1970, Puebla de Híjar and Tortosa. A track now converted into a green route, with circulation limited to walkers, horse-riders and cyclists. The route is 40 km long, all downhill. The next stop will be the Prat de Comte old distillery. www.aiguardent.com  You’ll visit the old distillery and will know the process of distillation. We will have lunch in the old Benifallet Station www.estaciodebenifallet.com  which origins date back to the early part of the last century which along with the railway line project of the Zafán Valley sought to unite La Puebla de Hijar to Tortosa. A great way to end this day will be to go kayaking from Benifallet to Tivenys. http://en.descensodelebro.com/recorridos/tramo-8-benifallettivenys/  Going down the Ebre River is a pleasant activity for enjoying the scenery in peace and quiet, with lush riverbank forests and the sound of birds singing.

And to finish the blog trip, we will visit Tortosa, the capital of Terres de l’Ebre, and enjoy panoramic views of the city. www.tortosaturisme.cat   The old quarter of Tortosa is very close to
the Ebre, a river which has been a natural entry from the sea to the interior of the Peninsula, since time gone by. Tortosa is a city linked to river trade and cultural exchange. Saracens, Jews and Christians inhabited the city and left a rich historical and artistic heritage which can still be visited nowadays. We will also see the Molí de Rafelet www.moliderafelet.com in Deltebre. Rafelet Windmill is a wooden mill dating back to 1935, which is still operating, making rice in the traditional, artisanal way.

We will start this blog trip visiting Montblanc www.montblancmedieval.cat, which is the finest example of a mediaeval town in the province of Tarragona. Thirty towers with merlons rise from the defensive wall that surrounds the town. We begin our tour by crossing the River Francolí over the elegant Pont Vell (Old Bridge). We come immediately to the old Hospital of Santa Magdalena. Farther on the gateway of Sant Antoni takes us into the town, where we visit the church of Santa Maria. During the Mediaeval week of Montblanc (end of April until begining of May) the streets and squares of Montblanc are festooned with the colours of the four noble houses and the towers and walls are embellished with the noble flags and standards. www.setmanamedieval.org

We cannot miss a visit to the monastery of Poblet www.poblet.cat, one of the most important historical monasteries in Europe and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The combination of Romanesque and Gothic, together with the severity of its walls and the elegance of its proportions, are the origins of the sensation of austerity, simplicity and peace that the Cistercian monks of St. Benedictine look for. As the Royal Pantheon of the Catalan-Aragon confederation, its serene calm is the last resting place of such monarchs as Jaume I. Poblet, Santes Creus and Vallbona de les Mongers are the three monasteries that make up the Cistercian Itinerary. www.larutadelcister.info

And we shouldn’t leave Costa Daurada without a visit to the county of Priorat www.turismepriorat.org while discovering the wine-making tradition of the area. The wine-making tradition of the Priorat began with the Carthusian monks who fostered the cultivation of the vine in this region. In the Priorat “designation of origin” region the composition of the slate soil and the rigours of the climate mean that production is limited but of exceptional quality. The new sensibility of the vine growers and recent improvements in technology is resulting in some extraordinary wines of great personality. www.prioratenoturisme.com

The easy access to the area, the natural beauty of the surroundings, the character of our people, the beaches, our historic and cultural heritage… make the Baix Empordà  the ideal setting to go for a short break or spend long holidays.
In this blog trip you will dig in the history and nature of the Baix Empordà area.  An excursion walking through the Gavarres will allow you to discover the dolmen of Cova d’en Daina, one of the best well-preserved of Catalunya. The literature of Mercè Rodoreda, great Catalan writer, and the magic of the international magician Xevi will guide you to incredible landscapes. You can’t miss the tradition of human towers, and for those brave enough the Via Ferrata of Sant Feliu awaits you for an unforgettable experience (the only Via Ferrata above the sea in Europe). You can also enjoy the same coastline walking along the coastal path.  You will also get to know the culture, by visiting Sant Elm’s chapel from where the Costa Brava was first named, and the medieval town of Castell d’Aro. In the middle of the Gavarres Mountains, you will taste a traditional wine of the area and see one of the farmhouses where it is produced the old way, getting a taste of what the Denomination of Origin Empordà has to offer.
