Name of Tour: Undiscovered Holbox
Location: Isla Holbox
Date: September 14 – 16, 2015
Description: Guests looking for off-the-beaten path experiences will love exploring the island of Holbox. Located 40 miles North West of Cancun, Holbox is a small fishing village that is separated from the mainland by a shallow lagoon, which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and other exotic birds and creatures. Holbox is key to the Yum Balam ecological reserve, which is protected by international regulations and its topography combines rainforest, virgin beaches, lagoons, cenotes, and rivers.
On this visit, guests will stay in one of Holbox’s boutique hotels and tour the island on a golf cart (cars are not allowed on Holbox). Visitors will also experience the island’s delectable cuisine, relaxing beach activities, kite surfing classes or bird watching tours. Visitors will also visit the Yalahau lagoon and delight in the small island life of Holbox – only a few hours from bustling Cancun.
Between May and September whale sharks congregate in the waters of Cancun more than any other place on earth, and Isla Holbox is no exception. For those that choose this trip, the whale shark excursion will be confirmed on site as these animals may or may not still be in the area. If the sharks are still around during this time, guests will be able to check this off their bucket list, and swim with the largest fish in the world.
